What is Trigger Finger | London & Essex?
.webp)
Professor Ben Miranda performs trigger finger hand surgery in London Harley Street & Essex (Chelmsford & Southend). The flexor tendons that bend the fingers and thumb start at muscles in the forearm and then run through the hand to the finger tips via a series of 'pulleys' called the flexor sheath. Inside the flexor sheath, a 'tenosynovium' lines the flexor tendons and helps them to glide smoothly.
When the tenosynovium thickens, most commonly at the first 'A1' pulley in the palm, trigger finger can occur. When this happens, you may initially experience 'clicking' or 'catching' as the finger moves; with time the finger may get 'locked' in a flexed or bent position and the condition may be painful. While there may be no identifiable cause, trigger finger is more commonly seen in patients who have jobs or hobbies that require a high level of manual activity, or in patients with arthritis or diabetes.
