What is Abdominoplasty or Tummy Tuck Cosmetic Surgery | London & Essex?

A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty, combined with muscle tightening, can achieve excellent cosmetic surgery results. There are many other types of 'mummy makeover' or 'post-weight loss' cosmetic surgery operations available to patients | London Harley Street & Essex.

Professor Ben Miranda performs abdominoplasty or tummy tuck cosmetic surgery in London & Essex. This is a cosmetic surgery operation that removes excess skin and fat from your tummy; when required, Professor Miranda will also tighten your tummy muscles (rectus abdominis) to further improve the cosmetic shape and contour of your abdomen. After your surgery you may need to wear a well-fitted compression garment to help maintain your post-operative shape while you are healing. There are a variety of abdominoplasty or tummy tuck cosmetic surgery options available in London & Essex:

  • Mini Abdominoplasty: If you only have a small mount of excess skin or fat below your belly button, this can be removed, usually leaving a bikini line or low abdominal scar that is concealable by wearing normal underwear. This procedure is more frequently requested by young mothers who have tissue excess after pregnancy.

  • Full Abdominoplasty: Your tummy tissue will be stretched from above your belly button (umbilicus) down to your bikini line or lower abdomen; this will mean that you will usually heal with a scar that can extend from hip to hip and is concealable by wearing normal underwear. Your belly button (umbilicus) will be kept and brought through your new flat tummy; this will mean that you will also have a scar around your new belly button (umbilicus). If your tummy muscles (rectus abdominis) are weak, Professor Ben Miranda will use special stitches to strengthen them and improve the cosmetic shape and contour of your abdomen. This procedure is usually more suitable for patients after significant weight loss or after completing their family. As a full tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is quite an extensive operation, if you are planning to fall pregnant, you should not have this surgery until after you have completed your family.

  • Fleur De Lis Abdominoplasty: Any lateral excess abdominal tissue may be addressed using a T-shaped incision. This procedure is more frequently required by patients after massive weight loss.

  • Panniculectomy: This is a functional operation, rather than a cosmetic one, which removes excess symptomatic excess abdominal tissue; it may not be possible to reconstruct the belly buttom (umbilicus).

Professor Ben Miranda perfoms brachioplasty or arm lift cosmetic surgery in London and Essex. Brachioplasty is a cosmetic surgery operation that removes the excess or loose skin on the upper arms that often affects patients who have lost a significant amount of weight; in more extensive cases it may be beneficial to combine a brachioplasty with liposuction to cosmetically improve the arm contour further and the scar may extend from the armpit, along the inner arm down to the elbow. dFollowing your surgery you may need to wear a well fitted compression garment to help maintain your post-operative shape while you are healing.symmetry or a cosmetic surgery outcome that is not what you had expected, skin flap necrosis (possibly requiring dressings or a skin graft) and numbness over the lower part of the abdomen (may be permanent). It is also very important to mobilise as early as possible post-operatively, to prevent the rare complications of a DVT or PE.
